Expertise in action: Gladys

CONSIDER LIFE BEYOND SPREADSHEETS

With spreadsheets bulging with hedge accounting macros, you’re one missed keystroke away from financial restatement. Get our Straight-Through Processing to your general ledger or to other third-party systems.

Gladys, product management guru @ Reval
Expert in getting systems to talk to one another.

Gladys is responsible for the management of Reval’s product solutions team. She has nearly 20 years experience in product development for trading, risk management, accounting, and operational systems for banks and other financial services firms. As director of client services at a financial software provider of fixed income trading systems, Gladys worked closely with clients and product development groups to design and implement system solutions. Prior to that, she worked in trade services and systems development at major international banks in New York. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations from Kirkland College (Hamilton College).

Client: How does your Straight-Through Processing work?

Gladys: “Reval’s STP completely integrates the front, middle, and back office processes that you rely on during the life of a derivative. Once your trade is saved, all the data that’s associated with that deal becomes available. To price and use for financial reporting, for hedge accounting, for resets or payments, or inventory. Anything that’s involved with a derivative, from evaluating exposures to making final ledger entries, is at your fingertips.”

What about market data used for valuations?

“That’s a Reval strength. Our system provides hundreds of curves for different financial instruments. It’s part of Reval’s core offering, independent market data that’s validated and published daily.”

But can your system work alongside ours?

“We’ve built our SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) platform so that it has the ability to link with different treasury or enterprise systems. We call it Reval Connect. And it uses data exchange protocols that are standard in the industry. That makes integration with other systems possible.”

How does it work?

“You decide what information needs to be imported or exported from our system. We’ve built a series of generic interfaces in Reval Connect that allows quick integration of data with other systems such as SAP, Wall Street Systems, SunGard, and Thomson among others.”

So what’s the bottom line?

“Retire your spreadsheets. Then configure our SaaS platform with the functions best suited to your needs. Use Reval Connect to import derivative trade data or market data. Or use it to export cash settlement information. In any case, use it so that there’s no need to re-key data from other systems. And sit back and watch Reval STP handle it all.”
